- colonography
- n. imaging of the colon, as an alternative to barium enema, to detect polyps, tumours, and anatomical abnormalities. CT colonography uses computerized tomography to obtain many axial thin-slice images (usually less than 3 mm thick), which can be electronically reformatted in two or three dimensions (see multiplanar reconstruction). It has the added advantage of imaging all the other abdominal organs, including the liver. MR colonography, using magnetic resonance imaging, is still in its early stages of development.
